How it’s built

A short technical overview for the person helping your team set up Kautuka.

Native AOT .NET

Kautuka’s services are compiled ahead of time to native code, so they start quickly, use little memory and don’t need a separate language runtime installed.

Microsoft Agent Framework

Agents are built on Microsoft Agent Framework, the same framework behind Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry.

Separate services, not one big process

The gateway, web host, channels, credentials, container manager, updater and monitor each run on their own, so one problem doesn’t take everything down.

Rootless containers for agent work

Agent code and local connectors run in rootless Podman containers, so they never run as an administrator. Remote HTTP connectors run on the provider’s side.

SQLite on your machine

Settings, approvals and history live in a local database, so approvals survive a restart.

An open record

Every session is written in Narad Protocol, an open MIT-licensed format.

Open source

Kautuka is open source under Apache-2.0.

Runs smoothly on a 4 GB Intel Core M tablet (Acer T300 Chi) using a cloud model. Local models through Ollama need more memory.
